This qualification provides the skills required for competence in remedial massage practice. Practitioners at this level may be self employed as independent practitioners or may work within a larger health service. It covers the provision of remedial massage treatment to clients
with specific needs such as injury management, rehabilitation, palliative care, aged care, women and children. Practitioners at this level may supervise other massage therapists.

The Diploma is the minimal level for receiving WorkCover and Private Insurance Provider Numbers.

Prerequisites: Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice (or equivalent). Students wanting this qualification will need to complete the Certificate IV before enrolling in the Diploma.

Length of Course: 2 terms of 9 weeks each (if starting with the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice, it will be 4 terms of 9 weeks each).

Delivery of Content: The student can be enrolled:

  • full-time day
  • part-time day
  • part-time night
  • on-line (theory only)

In all cases, classes are a mix of theory and practical subjects. This includes a practical placement with a qualified massage therapist.

RPL and Credit Transfer: Students are encouraged to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning based on formal learning or work history. Those with First Aid, Communication and OH&S knowledge are usually exempted from these subjects.

Students with the common units receive an automatic credit transfer and deduction in fees.

14 competency units are required for award of this qualification, comprising of 6 common units and 8 specialisation units. Graduates will be able to update their First Aid Level 2 Certificate if needed.
