Student Support Program | Open Days | FAQ's
Students at Victorian College of Health Care Education are supported in their learning to develop a strong link between theory and practical knowledge. The courses offered at the College are designed to progress the student from basic theory to being a competent, confident practitioner.
College staff are fully qualified and current clinical experience is a requirement of all lecturers that teach practical subjects. This ensures that students are exposed to the current approaches in clinical practice. At VCHE, high quality learning programs are taught in accordance with government and registered bodies requirements.
Classes are conducted in a supportive environment with modern facilities,
incorporating a professional "hands-on" approach by dedicated
lecturing staff.
VCHE's integrated approach allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding
of the therapeutic process as they develop a high degree of professional
skill and sensitivity.
Students are ensured of utmost privacy during practical classes with individual
cubicles, thus maintaining modesty and comfort.
TEACHING FACILITIES:
Practical classes are held in two purpose built fully-equipped practical
rooms. The student clinic is one of the most advanced facilities of its
kind. Other facilities include a computer lab, tutorial rooms, and lecture

Victorian College operates several programs that will assist you in making
the transition from Year 12 to tertiary education, or from the workforce
to studying. The College also offers supported study programs for students
who need help in their studies. There is no additional cost to participate
in any of these programs.
The programs are:
1) Orientation for New Students.
This includes a full Introductory Day to the College, consisting of a College tour, meeting other students, meeting senior lecturers, an overview of student services offered by the College, an Introduction to Time Management, and assignment writing guidelines. A catered lunch is provided on another day that includes all College students, and is a great way to meet second and third year students, and students doing other courses.
2) Transition.
The Transition Program is available to all students who have just completed Year 12. This program consists of a small group of 6 – 8 students who meet weekly to discuss how they are adjusting to the tertiary environment. The Course Co-ordinator facilitates the meetings (this means
that any problems are quickly identified and resolved). In the past, quided
discussions have included study techniques, time management, problems with
self-directed learning, and social conversations!
3) Returning to Study.
The Returning to Study Program is available to all students who are returning to study. This program consists of a small group of 3 – 4 students who meet weekly to discuss how they are adjusting to the tertiary environment. The Course Co-ordinator facilitates the meetings. Unlike the Transition Program, the Returning to Study Program focuses on issues that concern older students, such as managing work and study, juggling childcare needs, and forming peer groups with other students who have returned to study.
4) Extra Learning Tutorials
Extra voluntary tutorials are offered each week of the semester for each theoretical subject. These tutorials are in addition to the tutorials that are part of the normal course load. Students may attend if they have specific problems with one area, or may choose to attend every week for extra remedial help.
5) Library Tutorials.
The Library Tutorial Program helps student understanding the College’s Professional Library system, and also libraries at other institutions.
6) Study Techniques & Exam Techniques.
Throughout each semester, the College runs a weekly Study Techniques Tutorial, where students who are having difficulty with their learning can ask for help. The emphasis is on different learning styles and effective study techniques.
In the last weeks of semester, the College offers Exam Preparation Tutorials. Advice is given to students on how to prepare for Multiple Choice, True/False, and Long and Short Answer questions. The study “hints†can be invaluable!
